The Swamper/ Loader Operator is responsible for assisting with the installation of screw piles and extensions. This role works closely with the Install Operator and Field Supervisor on site and is required to have knowledge of the customer and how installation directly impacts them. This role is integral in the set-up, support and supply of materials for each site and crew they work with. The Swamper/Loader Operator demonstrates efficiency in the duties and responsibilities of a Swamper while acquiring the skills to safely operate the various types of loaders that Almita uses, both in the yard and on site. This position is responsible for safely loading and unloading piles, as well as various other materials shipped to site, including caps, rig mats, crates, etc.), and develops a fundamental understanding of load disbursement and securing. Along with gaining a basic knowledge of loader operations, this position is accountable for the accurate and clear documentation related to receiving and distribution of materials on site. The Swamper / Loader Operator works to develop and master their communication skills to maximize safety and efficiency. This role also engages in training related to maintenance, documentation and safe operation of heavy equipment.

  • Learns to safely operate a loader to load/unload piles from transport trucks and assists in securing a variety of load types, including piles, dunnage, drive cans, etc.
  • Learns to layout and place piles and other materials in various work locations under supervision
  • Completes pre-use inspections and fully understands the weight capacity of the loader they are operating
  • Familiar with the loader functions, battery type and voltage
  • Learns the applicable grease points and appropriate grease based on seasonal factors
  • Demonstrates safe operating procedures (start-up, operation, stopping, etc.)
  • Demonstrates an awareness of blind spots and workers
  • Uses horn to signal movement
  • Learns to safely operate a loader on level and uneven ground conditions
  • Demonstrates proper 3-point contact while getting on and off equipment
  • Demonstrates awareness of the loader’s dimensions in order to operate safely in height-restricted areas
  • Demonstrates good housekeeping habits by keeping the site clean and tidy to prevent injuries and property damage

The following are required:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence without GDL
  • 6+ months of experience in a Swamper position, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in all aspects of the role
  • 6+ months of experience in loader operation
  • Knowledge of industry-related hand tools (such as reading tape measures, level or plump, and using a hammer or shovel)
