The Geotechnical Engineer works with other engineers and functional team members to perform all engineering aspects as they relate to the application of deep foundations – primarily helical pile foundations.

This role is based in the continental USA and will support our US-based projects.


  • Manage and execute design projects to ensure the objectives for project deliverables and schedules are met
  • Review the available design information and evaluate best application of deep foundation technology. Majority of projects will be focused on helical piles.
  • Effectively communicate with project team members to determine project design requirements
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to the project specifications and design requirements
  • Provide signoffs on designs, affixing the engineering stamp
  • Conduct site visits to ensure project requirements are met
  • Review geotechnical reports and determine engineering parameters for foundation designs
  • Understand and interpret geotechnical investigation reports
  • Extract necessary data from reports to properly design and meet foundation requirements
  • Oversee and perform pile load testing programs, validate designs for final application
  • Provide structural analysis and design of the elements and connections of the foundation, including piles, caps, pile groups, beams, bolted connections, etc.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis for piles using in-house and commercial software, such as LPile, Group and other commercial programs
  • Use Finite Element Analysis software (SAP2000) or other related structural design software
  • Take accountability for assignments and projects and perform to Almita’s quality standards and address deficiencies immediately
  • Represent the company within the engineering community, foundation industry and media
  • Fulfill the requirements necessary to maintain Professional Engineering status in good standing

The following are required:

  • Degree in civil, geotechnical, or structural engineering
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) designation
  • 5+ years’ experience in civil engineering with geotechnical or structural engineering emphasis
  • Helical pile design experience
  • Advanced computer skills, including engineering software, CAD programs, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

The following are considered assets:

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Experience with other (non-helical) deep foundation types
  • Strong network of contacts in the engineering community
